Digital entrepreneurship, freelancing, and artificial intelligence represent new opportunities for African talent. For Roméo Moumouni, these fields are at the heart of his mission.
Founder of L’École des Freelances, he supports professionals who want to develop digital skills and access international clients.A member of the ENTOURAGE+ community, he reflects on his journey, the challenges he faced, and the impact of the connections he has built through the network.
Could you introduce yourself and tell us about your activities?
My name is Roméo Moumouni, and I am the founder of L’École des Freelances, an online school and incubator. We train employees, students, and entrepreneurs in freelancing skills and, more recently, in opportunities related to artificial intelligence, helping them develop digital competencies and find clients.
I also run Scale Partner, where we support infopreneurs who want to structure and grow the sales of their training programs and coaching services.
Have you always been an entrepreneur?
Not exactly. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I worked for three months in a bank. That experience quickly made me realize that corporate life was not for me. It pushed me to start my entrepreneurial journey. I began with freelancing, offering services to companies, before launching L’École des Freelances to pass these skills on to others.
What were the main challenges you faced in your entrepreneurial journey?
The first challenge was credibility. Working with international clients while being based in Africa can sometimes create distrust. Another challenge was access to information and tools, particularly payment solutions and certain resources that were difficult to access. And of course, like many entrepreneurs, there are always moments of doubt and uncertainty.
How did you discover Entourage?
I first heard about it during discussions with entrepreneur friends. Later, I discovered the platform through an advertisement. At first, I hesitated to join because I wanted to be sure I could also bring value to the community. Once my business became more structured, I decided to join ENTOURAGE+.
Which ENTOURAGE+ experiences have you participated in?
I have attended two Entourage Dinners, including my first one with Nabou Fall, and another gathering with ENTOURAGE+ members in Cotonou. These events create a space where entrepreneurs and experts can exchange ideas openly.
What did the dinner with Nabou Fall bring you?
We had very rich discussions, and she shared several strategic insights that I was able to apply quickly to my business. But beyond the advice, what struck me most was the power of networking. It was not just an event where people ask questions and leave. We built a genuine connection that even led to a collaboration that continues today. That’s when I truly understood the value of these kinds of encounters.
How would you describe your experience within the ENTOURAGE+ community?
From what I have seen so far, the experience has been very positive. There is a real sense of cohesion among members. Events are shared, participants recap their experiences after dinners, and there is a strong collective dynamic. The meetings I attended were very friendly and showed a genuine willingness to share.
How would you evaluate the service provided by Entourage?
I believe it is an extremely relevant solution, especially in the African context. Access to experienced experts and leaders is not always easy. Even when you are willing to invest in mentorship, opportunities remain limited. Entourage makes this proximity possible. Without the platform, many people would never have the chance to exchange directly with experts or attend strategic dinners. It is a very valuable initiative for entrepreneurs.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a business?
I would give the same advice I recently shared in a podcast with Nabou Fall: just start. The first step is always the hardest. Sometimes it only takes about twenty hours to understand the basics of a business model or a skill. Yet many people spend months thinking without ever taking action. You have to stop overanalyzing and accept moving forward. Because in the end, it always takes a little bit of boldness to achieve extraordinary things.
